Trucks: Pros and Cons

Bed: The rear part of a pickup truck is an open bed for storage. This is what makes them different from vans, SUVs, or any other type of vehicle. The bed is long and flat and easy to access. This is great for people that work construction jobs and need to transport heavy material regularly. It is also very handy if you need to move large things like furniture because no other vehicle can carry them.

Mileage: This is a major disadvantage for all trucks. They all have terrible fuel economy. The average pickup truck only gets about 23 miles to the gallon. Modern hybrids are capable of efficiency figures over 50 miles per gallon. So if you use a pickup truck to travel for your job, you’ll be racking up a lot of fuel expenses.

Seating: The pickup truck’s bed is its advantage. But this means that the space available for the cab is limited. You’ll often see trucks that only have one row of seats. Some even offer a small second row as a consolation. But there are larger cabs available with four doors and spacious seating for 5 adults. The downside of a large cab is that it compromises the length of the bed. So unless you know the exact utility of the truck, you’ll have to guess the size of the cab and the size of the bed that you will need.

Durability: Pickup trucks are way more durable than any other type of vehicle. They’re built tough and built to last. The rear beds of pickup trucks are also separate from the cab. This allows the chassis to flex and enables pickups to carry, haul, and pull heavier loads than any other passenger vehicle.

Safety: You will find safety advantages and disadvantages with trucks. The high seating offers better visibility and is a clear advantage. But trucks aren’t very maneuverable on the road. Their structure also means they may not suffer too much damage in accidents.
