Things You Need to Consider Before Buying a Sedan
There are at least 100 sedans of all sizes available in the American market today. Choosing one that’s perfect for you is always going to be a task. We’ll help with understanding the important things to consider when you’re buying a sedan.
Price: Sedan prices start at about $14,000 and go beyond $100,000 for a luxury cruiser. We recommend that you spend a minimum of $19,000 to get the right equipment and necessary safety gear in your sedan.
Engines and efficiency: Sedans with four-cylinder engines tend to be much more efficient than V6s. The modern four-cylinder engines manage to not compromise on power output either. While manuals are rare, advanced technology has made automatics far more efficient than they’ve ever been. If efficiency is really important, you could always spend a little more and go in for a hybrid. The money you’ll save on fuel will be substantial.
Driven wheels: Most sedans have front-wheel drive. This makes them more efficient and allows them to have a flatter floor in the passenger cabin, thereby creating more room. High-performance and luxury sedans still have rear-wheel drive. More and more models today are being offered with all-wheel drive too. If you live in a place where the weather is terrible, this could be a good option.
Access: On your test-drive, enter and exit from all four doors. Ensure that you can do so easily without hurting your head. This will be an important point when you use it with your family.
Cargo: Most sedans have a decent amount of cargo space. But if you’re likely to carry long items like skis, get a sedan with a folding rear seat. It will create an opening that will allow you to pass long items into the passenger area from the trunk.
Safety: Sedans tend to be safer than all other car types. New safety tech usually debuts in a sedan and then makes its way on to other vehicle types. Ensure that your sedan has received excellent crash-test ratings, and is equipped with front, side and knee airbags. Safety tech like ABS, EBD, ESC, FCW, and AEB should also be a priority.
